Pre Natal Yoga

Kriya is commited to supporting mothers, helping them connect with their own wisdom and knowing.

Pregnancy is a momentous and magical time in a woman's life.  At this time it is important that a woman be deeply nurtured so she too can nurture the child growing within. The practice of yoga is ideal for achieving this.

The benefit of deep relaxation in pregnancy, for mother and baby is widely recognized.  At the core of all yoga practices are techniques for achieving this.

Yoga postures or "asanas" help to strengthen the body, whilst increasing flexibility, even when the body feels too tired for more energetic pursuits.  Additionally they can lead to the relief of many of the discomforts of pregnancy including backache, insomnia, and constipation.

Breathing techniques or "pranayama" calm the mind and promote increased energy.

Meditation and relaxation practices develop focus and assist in developing a deeper relationship with the baby.

Through the practice of yoga you learn ways of   coping physically and mentally with the rigors of pregnancy, and the mothering that lies beyond, many women even find some of the skills learned assist them during the birth.

In these classes these techniques for self-care will be learned in a supportive environment with an emphasis on safety and relaxation.

In our society the physical needs of the mother and baby are well catered to.  Unfortunately women do not always feel emotionally supported.  These Prenatal yoga classes provide an opportunity to talk about your concerns and to be with other women who are on the same journey.

Kriya's expertise in this are has been called upon in the past in the training of other yoga teachers in this specialised field.

It is important to inform your Midwife or Doctor of your yoga practice and that your teacher is kept informed of what is happening throughout your pregnancy.  If your pregnancy is considered high risk, approval from your obstetrician may be sought for you to attend the class.
