some comments on Kriya's classes and Satyananada Yoga in general

A note from Kriya

I struggled with the idea of adding a testimonials page to this web site. I decided in the end this was the cyber space way of "word of mouth". I believe strongly it takes courage to come to a class and be guided each time on a journey within. It is important that a prospective student knows the teacher is trained, experienced, professional, and possesses compassion, empathy and skill as a teacher. It is in this spirit that the testimonials page has been added.

I have been to many different yoga classes over the years. Kriya's teaching of Yoga stands out above all for me. Kriya is so willing and able to share her deep knowledge of yoga to whatever level a student needs. The classes are fantastic, well structured, professional and totally addictive as indicated by many students who have been attending Kriya's classes for years. Kriya's teaching does not require a student to be able to impersonate a pretzel tying yourself     in knots but the gentle asanas (poses) build to a powerful effectiveness under Kriya's expert guidance. After Kriya's class when I am driving home to Mt Victoria, I feel relaxed, balanced and rejuvenated. This is partly because Kriya is a great and experienced teacher, but mainly I think it is because her nurturing and respectful attitude comes from the heart. I   love taking Kriya's Saturday morning class. It's the perfect way to start the weekend. If I arrive tired or with any tension I leave the class totally relaxed! It's the combination of Kriya's soothing voice taking us through the meditation practices, and the well considered routine of asanas suited to our individual needs, that ensures a feeling of well being that lasts! I have been doing Yoga for about 12 years and find Kriya's class to be nurturing, non competitive, subtly energizing and relaxing. Also great fun after dragging myself through a tiring week! I have tried a number of different traditions and have found Satyananda Yoga to encapsulate the true spirit of yoga, I like the balance of physical postures with meditation and breathing. I suffer from gynealogical problems which cause lower abdominal and lower back pain. The gentle stretches help with the physical pain, and the relaxation and meditation help calm my mind. Kriya is able to suggest different yoga practices appropriate for different situations/issues. (Rosemary, Lawson)
 

Pre Natal Classes

the class was wonderful, I loved it, it was my favourite part of the week. Being with other women, and the assurance of Kriya as we went into the unknown was wonderful. I'm also sure the yoga helped during labour, the breathing especially. I was able to approach each contraction like it was a wave and breathe over the crest of it. (Rebecca T, Lawson)

I have attended yoga with Kriya since 2001, both general and pre-natal classes. I found the pre-natal yoga especially useful during my pregnancy and the birth of my daughter. I loved the opportunity to "network" with other pregnant women and benefit from Kriya's knowledge and experience. Pre-natal yoga allowed me to better understand my changing body and how to care for myself through meditation, breathing and asanas.
